Bouquet
Diane Borsato
Toronto, 2006-ongoing
In response to instructions from The Critical Art Ensemble to commit a crime with a humanitarian outcome - I stole a selection of flowers from my neighbours' gardens.
When I finally I accumulated a nice combination of colours, and varieties of flowers, I arranged the entirely stolen bouquet and brought it to my mother as a surprise gift. She was delighted.
SInce making the first version of this work, I have made 8 different vase arrangements for gallery exhibitions, and intend to continue repeating the intervention. The stolen bouquets are now part of an ongoing series of scultpures.
Exhibition History:
This gesture was curated by Jim Drobnick, Jennifer Fisher, Dave Dyment and Roula Partheniou for the on-line exhibition "Do Me" for the 7a11d festival of Performance Art in Toronto, 2006.
Bouquet versions #2, and #3 were exhibited as sculptures at Cambridge Galleries, in conjuntion with the University of Waterloo School of architecture and CAFKA in 2007.
Versions #4, #5, #6, #7, #8, and #9 were created for the Power Ball fundraiser party at The Power Plant contemporary art gallery, as subversive party decorations in Toronto, 2008.
